The point of this list is to help facilitate those who are new to homeschooling to quickly gather some free resources together to begin their schooling. There is at least one free resource per main subject. You may not end up staying with these programs, but they are good enough to get you going, while you traverse through this new forest of information and curriculums...

Composition	Write On Write On is a professional development project whose goal is to improve composition skills for grades 3-5 through a school-wide writing initiative based on the Four Square Writing Graphic Organizer developed by Judith S. and Evan Gould.	Paragraph a Week A yearly writing program designed to give your fifth- and sixth-graders practice with writing various types of paragraphs. In addition it reinforces good study habits and preparation of long-term assignments. Moreover, it involves parents in their child's Language Arts curriculum.
Spelling	Practice everyday, write words 10 times, use index cards to make flash cards, write sentences using words, etc.

Grammar	Practice everyday with lessons in sequential order, after you determine what your child already knows. Start there.

Reading	TIP to Encourage reading more: Let child stay up late reading in bed, if laying still, quiet and reading. If they act up, off goes the light. Reading for fun = Reading what THEY want, with parental approval, of course. Comic Books, library books of their choosing, magazines, ANYTHING. Should be a relaxed, ungraded time for them to read for fun. Every night!

Because it is open-source, it represents the collective wisdom of a wide community of teachers and researchers. FreeReading contains a 40-week scope and sequence of phonological awareness and phonics activities that can support and supplement a typical kindergarten or first grade core or basal program.

These interactive tools can be used to supplement a variety of lessons and provide an opportunity for students to use technology while developing their literacy skills. Math	Several approaches to choose from. Should be practiced everyday for mastery. Remember to review basics every now and then.

	Free Elementary American History Curriculum From OurLosBanos Homeschoolers This is an 82 page fully laid out curriculum that is designed for 3rd grade, but as with anything can be used with al grades with minor adjustments. Great jumping off point, and great guide for you to make your own curriculum! To find the download: Go to the page and scan down towards the bottom. Teaching History for Kids This site is full of information for elementary through junior high and some highschool level history lessons. My opinion, is that is is mostly Junior High level. They have free downloads, great ideas and of course links to things you can buy, but you don't need to buy anything, really. As long as you have a library nearby.
